Church of Santiago de Padrón
The church of Santiago of Padrón ocupa a place central dentro of the heritage historic and religioso of Galicia. Este templo is located estrechamente vinculado a the tradiciones that narran the llegada through mar of the restos of the Apóstol Santiago and is one of the main landmarks of the identidad jacobea of the town.
The church preserves in su interior one of the elementos more important of the tradición compostelana: the historic Pedrón, a stone of granite que, según the leyenda, sirvió for amarrar the embarcación that transportó the cuerpo of the Apóstol from Palestina to Galicia. Este símbolo ha dado nombre tanto to the town como a a parte fundamental of the historia jacobea.
The building actual refleja different stages constructivas and mantiene a important función religiosa and cultural dentro of the municipality. Su situación in the centro historic favorece also the integración with otros recursos patrimoniales of great relevancia.
Miles of pilgrims and visitors acuden cada year a este place for conocer one of the escenarios fundamentales of the tradición santiaguesa. The combinación of espiritualidad, historia and heritage convierte the visit in a experiencia especially significativa.
The church of Santiago represents one of the main señas of identidad of Padrón and is a parada imprescindible for comprender the orígenes of the fenómeno jacobeo.
