Portuguese Way
Camiño Portugués por Padrón
Padrón · Rois · Teo · Ames
The Portuguese Way is the second most-walked Camino de Santiago in the world, attracting over 100,000 pilgrims annually. It follows the ancient Roman Via XIX linking Braga with Astorga, gaining prominence in the 12th century after Portugal gained independence. In the Terras de Santiago geodestination it passes through Padrón —where tradition holds that the boat carrying the Apostle's body landed—, continues through Rois and Teo past the Pazo de Faramello and Castro Lupario, and ends in Ames before entering Compostela via O Milladoiro.
